India becomes Vice-Chair of WCO Council for the Asia Pacific Region
On 16 July, at the invitation of the Central Board of Indirect Tax and Customs (CBIC) of India, WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya attended a ceremony organized in New Delhi on the occasion of India assuming Vice-Chairmanship of the WCO Council for the Asia Pacific Region.

WCO supports the ASEAN Member States to strengthen their IPR border enforcement
With the sponsorship of the Japanese Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF Japan) and in cooperation with the Royal Malaysia Customs Department (RMCD), a WCO Sub-Regional Workshop on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy was held for the ASEAN Member States (AMS) in the Royal Malaysian Customs Academy from 9 to 13 July 2018.

At the invitation of the G20, the WCO presented its study report on illicit financial flows (IFFs) to the Development Working Group (DWG) of the G20, at its second meeting held in Tucumán, Argentina, on 12 July 2018.

WCO supports Papua New Guinea on Advance Ruling System and improvement of tariff classification
Under the sponsorship of the Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF) of Japan, a WCO National Workshop on Revenue Package on Development of Advance Ruling System for Classification and the HS 2017 was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG), from 9 to 13 July 2018. Twenty-five Customs Officials worked intensively during the workshop facilitated by a WCO Technical Officer and a WCO accredited expert in HS matters from the Australian Border Force.

Niger launches change management and communication activities relating to the modernization of its Human Resource Management
Under the auspices of the WCO-WACAM Project funded by Sweden, a Human Resource Management (HRM) capacity-building mission was held from 29 June to 7 July 2018 in Niamey, Niger. The goal of the mission was to launch change management and communication activities both within and outside Customs. Sessions and meetings were held with the Minister of Finance and his team as well as with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in the presence of all importers, exporters and freight forwarders and also the national media, in order to raise awareness and enlist their support for the modernization of its HRM. In addition, information and communication sessions were held for all staff within the Niamey region.
